Most assume only artists are successful designers, but they are confusing two totally separate careers. Think of it as an artist and a gallery curator – one or many artists might create the artwork, but it is the curator who understands how to best combine, showcase, and inspire the public. Similarly, graphic design is more about combining elements such as type, photos, illustrations, and color to create effective messages – not necessarily creating those elements yourself. {Even if you draw stick elephants, what’s stopping you?}

MY STORY

I mean it when I say I've been there, done that and got this!

When I started my design journey, I was just like you – busy juggling family and work responsibilities while trying to move up the corporate ladder.  

When I tried to expand my skills in the art realm, I was so TERRIBLE the instructor actually DISCOURAGED me from pursuing other art-related classes – ouch! 

Fortunately, my story didn’t end there. 

Art school was never going to happen, but I knew there had to be another way – I already had a degree, I didn’t want another one.
 
I eventually went to bat with a local college with a great communication design program and got clearance to skip two years of art prerequisites and jump straight into the second half of their communication design program…

And Today, I am the ultimate DRAB TO FAB story!

I am living proof that you don’t have to be artistic to be a great graphic designer. My signature drawing is still a stick-elephant, but I have lived at the corner of marketing and design for over a decade, cultivated a flourishing design business, and have helped thousands unleash their creative aspirations.
